yea, AMD CPU's aren't great for overclocking... Not stable at all past a few MHz increase, whereas intel can OC over 1GHz quite easily.i prefer amd over intel anyway. plus ASUS boards have a button that can turn a quad core into a six core and a program for very precise oc. Amd is fine for me as i dont plan to overclock much
i just prefer amd in general, i like their reliability and you get what you pay for. they may not be as good as intel but for my first build im happy with the cheaper option
Im using an Athlon II x2 on my laptop and its great!i just prefer amd in general, i like their reliability and you get what you pay for. they may not be as good as intel but for my first build im happy with the cheaper option
Yea. Thats strange you should say that... AMD CPU's are very unreliable :P Especially their dual cores.
Im hoping to change to intel in my next build
Both Intel and AMD have made some great chips and some crap ones, so it really depends on the exact cpu. At the moment generally speaking Intel have faster chips and AMD have a better upgrade path, will this change... sure it will. It will be all different in a year so being an AMD fanboy or an Intel fanboy is a bit pointless and the same goes for GFX cards.
however, asus have the nforce line of chipsets for amd cpu's so nvidia cards run with amd, and in SLIBoth Intel and AMD have made some great chips and some crap ones, so it really depends on the exact cpu. Yea, though the 2nd gen chips from intel are much better than any chip available with AMD right now.
as for GPU's, i try to get nVidia if intel is the CPU, or ATI if AMD is the CPU... Both (mainly ATI) are designed to run better with the relevant cpu

I've got the 955 like yourself Limey. Here's mine:
AMD Phenom II X 4 955 Black Edition, overclocked to 3.60 ghz

nice rig... what temps does your GTX570 have while gaming? do you have stock cooler on it?
Im not sure to be honest. How do i check this? (i know im rather stupid :) )
Limey
I thought the black edition was 965?
I originally thought mine was the black edition, but then i assumed i was mistaken.. so if there is a 955 black edition.. then i guess i have it xD
Yeah, i just checked on the invoice for the computer and its definately states '955 black edition', unless they've made a mistake, which is possible.
hehe i got the Amd phenom II x4 955 black edition, and my puter is running with a steady 20-23 C'
The graphix card (nViDiA Gtx 465 LE) on the other hand is sometimes up on a wopping 45C'
Im not sure to be honest. How do i check this? (i know im rather stupid :) )
Who are you quoting ???QuoteIm not sure to be honest. How do i check this? (i know im rather stupid :) )
all you need is to download GPU-Z from TechPowerUp website... run it while gaming and it shows you current temps
