RMA questions
« on: August 03, 2012, 01:40:07 AM »
Short version:
Both ram sticks in: error in prime95, intel burn test, OCCT and blue screens.
One ram stick in: Same errors and blue screens
Other ram stick in: No errors

So clearly the first stick of ram is faulty, and I want to get it replaced.
Never done an RMA before, so not quite sure what to do.

1) Would it be best to contact the retailer (ebuyer.com) or manufacturer (Corsair) ?

2) No memtest errors. On everything about RMAing RAM, most of the options are it shows errors in memtest. Surely I can RMA it even if it doesn't get errors in memtest?

Cheers :)

It means Return Merchandise Autorisation...basically you return the faulty item to either the manufacturer or seller.

Joe, contact Ebuyer first and tell them you had problems with your PC when stress testing it and insolated the problem to a faulty stick of RAM and you want to have it replaced. Would be good to take a screenshot of the error you're getting both in Prime95 and OCCT and send it to them as evidence.

If they refuse to replace the faulty stick, contact Corsair and do the same thing as those RAM sticks should have at least a 2 year manufacturer's warranty. I'm pretty sure you'll get a positive response from at least one of them.

The ram has a lifetime warranty, which is good :)
A couple of steps through the ebuyer process I have to phone someone else, and I have a feeling it's corsair :L so I might just use corsairs online way, but I need the lot code and serials, and I'm not sure which is which xD
On the email way I have a chance to think of a way to describe the errors, and on the phone I don't xD
There are also corsair forums where the corsair 'ram guy' replies.
Thanks for the help (as always) sin

Messaged corsair who said that the errors I got are sufficient for an RMA, and told me which where the serial and lot codes.
Only problem is I will be without RAM for however long it takes :/

Surely you can keep the working stick? That would get you by until the new stick gets to you!

Hmm, usually they just say return the faulty one, even if they came together... Maybe thats Kingston..

oh and RMA's usually take 2 weeks, depending on where you have to send it to etc.
